Northeast Community Credit Union Distributes Books to Children at Haverhill’s Head Start Center

HAVERHILL, MA --- Northeast Community Credit Union recently shared the fruits of its annual spring book drive with the children at Community Action Incorporated’s Head Start program at the Goldman Center.  Each year the credit union holds a book drive, with the goal of collecting new or gently used children’s books that can be given to children of all ages.  Several hundred books were collected this year.

“We’re fortunate to receive books from Northeast Community Credit Union again this year,” said Jill Sullivan, Goldman Center Director. “The children love receiving the books! We are grateful for the generosity of the credit union members and their support of Head Start.”

The Goldman Center serves over 30 children from Haverhill. All of the children will be able to enjoy the books both at school as well as at home. Many of the books were also used as part of the May Fling held at the Bradford Location.

“Its great to be able to give to the children in our community,” said Peter DiBenedetto, Treasurer/CEO. “Our members always do a terrific job of contributing to the book drive, allowing us to share with so many children. Seeing the kid’s eyes light up when they receive a book is a thrill!”

The book drive is organized by the Massachusetts Credit Union League. The drive originated through a long-term partnership between the Massachusetts Credit Union League and the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. Since its inception, nearly 110,000 books have been collected and distributed across the state.
