VOLUNTEERS SPEND THE DAY UPDATING PLAY AREAS

Northeast Community Credit Union employees Joan Gagnon, Erica LeMire, Garbrielle Pettengill and Josue Ramirez spread mulch around the Haverhill Day Care Center’s playground as part of the 14th Annual United Way Day of Caring.

HAVERHILL, MA —- As part of its commitment to the Greater Haverhill community, Northeast Community Credit Union employees took time away from their work day to participate in the United Way’s Annual Day of Caring. The program, which was first started in 1992, was designed to match corporate volunteers with projects at local non-profit health and human service agencies.

This year NCCU volunteers worked at the Haverhill Daycare on South Main Street in Bradford. Credit Union employees refreshed the center’s playground facilities by spreading mulch, painting the platform and stairs for a tire and slide jungle-gym and by building a sandbox. After a full day of work, the volunteers were treated to a hot meal of spaghetti and meatballs, prepared by the center’s cook.

“Our employees believe in the value of making a difference in the local community,” said NCCU Treasurer/CEO Peter Di Bendetto. “That’s why we have been involved with the United Way’s Day of Caring for many years. In the past, our employees have donated their time and efforts at such area locations as Emmaus house and the Haverhill Historical Society.”
